This Message Stick Pin was designed by Uncle Moogy Major Sumner (Ngarrindjeri/Kaurna- South Australia) For tens of thousands of years, message sticks were commonly used by First Nations peoples as a way of communicating between different groups. Messages were painted, carved or burned onto a stick, using symbols and imagery, and the message stick was transported by hand across long distances to the intended recipients.
